Goshawk in Kyiv. - A.A. Matus. - Berkut. 12 (1-2). 2003. - P. 66-69.
For last years, the problem of the biocenotic role the Goshawk plays has been acute. The population of the Goshawk in Kyiv has increased by 1,5 times during the last decade. 12 pairs breeding in Kyiv have been examined for the period of 1997–2002. The main nesting sites (n = 12) are long-boled parts of parks (41,7 %) and forest stands (41,7 %), and forest shelter-belts with high trees (16,7 %). Conifers are preferred for the nest building. Most nests were located at the height of 14–25 m (mean 19,0 ± 3,2 m). For the period of the study, 4 pairs possessed 1 nest, 3 pairs – 2 nests, 4 pairs – 3 nests, 1 pair – 5 nests. The average breeding success makes at 2,4 individuals fledged per active pair per season. The main feeding objects are representatives of the families Columbidae and Corvidae; predominantly Columba livia (31,3 %), Streptopelia decaocto (7,3 %), Corvus frugilegus (26,0 %), Corvus cornix (9,3 %), calculated by the number of individuals eaten.
