Song complex of the Chaffinch in Kyiv and its territorial relations. - E.D. Yablonovska-Grishchenko, V.N. Grishchenko. - Berkut. 19 (1-2). 2010. - P. 161-172.
We studied the geographic variability of the Chaffinch song in Ukraine in 2002–2010. 4 song dialects were described. Kyiv and its environs are situated in the Dnieper contact area between Right-bank and Left-bank dialects. In 2003–2008 we have recorded 850 songs of 158 individuals in Kyiv and 1564 songs of 246 individuals in 7 points in its outskirts. 38 song types were registered in Kyiv. Their sonograms are given. For the study of territorial relations the city was divided into 5 sectors. The centre of Kyiv has the most similarity with south-west and south-east parts of the city and with forests in these directions. North-west sector has the most differences. The song complex of the city and their sectors have typical composition and structure for the Dnieper contact area. They are self-sustaining owing to the presence of large parks and the inflow of Chaffinches from suburban forests. At the same time the absence of local song types (occurring only in one point of records in repertoire of many males) has shown the depletion of song complex in Kyiv. In many areas of the city habitats are small and fragmented. It complicates the process of cultural transmission and rare song types gradually disappear. [Russian].
